Welcome to Healthkick!!

At Healthkick, we're passionate about helping you to help yourself to improve your diet and exercise for a longer, better-quality life.

We empower you to enjoy a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

There are so many fads and fallacies out there, exacerbated by incomplete and selective media reports.  How do you know what's good for YOU?

We help you to weed out the fads and focus on the truth.

Changing habits takes time, and needs to consider your healthy history and beliefs.  We help you become self-aware, so you understand the changes that YOU need to make.

Small, incremental changes are sustainable and get results!

We don't want you to have to come back to us year after year, dollar after dollar.  Your sustainable, healthy lifestyle is our biggest interest, and it takes time, care and coaching.  We want to help you make positive changes and give you the tools to sustain these changes on your own.

Our unique services empower you to take control of your health, independently.

So, the ninemsn news says that Hungry Jacks has just released the Quad Burger, loaded with 4520kJ and 70g of fat!  Apart from the strain this sort of food puts on your liver and digestive system, the salt content of this single burger exceeds the daily sodium intake of the average person.  Fancy four hours of fast-paced running to burn off this little baby?

Apparently, people are trying the burger just because they've heard it's so bad.  Just like a naughty kid, this burger chain is probably lapping up the negative attention because it's better than no attention.  That's true in all senses - people need to know the negative facts so that they can make informed decisions.

Should Hungry Jacks cease selling this horrendous burger?  Should the media stop focussing on bad-boy burgers?  No.  All of this hype and activity is consumer-driven.  Vote with your mouth - simply don't purchase these things and they will eventually go away due to poor sales.

If you must have your fatty grease burger, do it twice a year, get the smallest one you can find that also has salad in it, and share it with a friend.

It's a jungle out there.  Keep your cells safe, and choose wisely.

It's amazing how negative thoughts creep into your head, and you often don't even realise it's happening.  What are the first things that enter your head when you wake up in the morning?  What to eat, plans for the day ahead....  or how terrible you're feeling, how tired you are, how much work you have ahead of you?

The thoughts you have about yourself when you wake up in the morning will set the tone for your thoughts and actions for the rest of your day.

Recently, I read an article on self-talk.  The article said that we fill our heads with negative thoughts about ourselves, yet we would never dream of talking to other people like that!

What are the consequences of negative self-talk?  It's pretty easy to work it out - lack of confidence in ourselves or our decisions, lack of self-belief, self-value and self-esteem.  These things lead to lack of effort, laziness, and poor self-treatment.

The solution - observe yourself for the next few days.  Catch yourself in the act of self-talk and work out if it's positive or negative.  If it's negative, see if you can retrain yourself - reward yourself for small achievements, recognise your efforts, enjoy who you are.  This takes time, patience and perserverence, but the great rewards you reap will be worth it!
